Ensuring high-end threading in difficult steel alloys – the application area of BLIZZARD

1. THE CHALLENGE

Steel workpiece materials with a broad range of alloys bring certain challenges: especially in serial production, process control is key. We started the development project BLIZZARD to provide machining experts with an optimum threading solution.

2. THE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

We decided to start a two-year research & development project together with our partners from the sectors substrate, heat treatment and surface technology with the objective to develop a new tool concept for the reliable processing of different steel alloys in serial production. Key parameters included:

  1. HSS-E/PM substrate for high wear resistance
  2. Simulation-based flute geometry
  3. High-precision rounding off process for cutting edge
  4. Innovative coating technology

„BLIZZARD“ performance spectrum –
the steel-allrounder with process controll zone

Example workpiece materials with high process control through BLIZZARD:
General Construction Steel 1.0037 (St37-2) · Heat Treatable Steel 1.7225 (42CrMo4) · Tool Steel 1.2343 (X38CrMoV5-1)
